SPECIAL EDUCATION TECHNICIAN

Place of Work: Student Services – Project Harbour

Nature of the Work: The principal and customary work of an employee in this class of employment consists in working with a multidisciplinary team to apply special education techniques and methods in keeping with an individualized education plan (IEP) for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with ASD.
  • Apply special education techniques and methods to support students with ASD in academic and social settings.
  • Provide direct support to students with ASD in classrooms, playgrounds, and other school settings.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of behavioral support plans for students with ASD.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff to ensure the successful implementation of IEPs and behavioral support plans.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in a related field an asset.
  • Experience working with students with ASD and/or other exceptionalities an asset.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
