Cloud Database Expert, AWS Relational Database Service

The Amazon Web Services Relational Database Service is a rapidly growing business area that provides automated relational database management in the cloud. Customers can easily set up new databases with just a few clicks, and complex administrative tasks such as scaling, fail-over, and monitoring are all handled by our control systems.

Amazon RDS Open Source is an exciting area of innovation for AWS. We are helping customers achieve high levels of performance, availability, and durability with open-source databases, while providing the managed benefits of RDS.

The systems we build manage a large number of databases, and our service is growing rapidly, requiring constant innovations in our systems to handle the next order of magnitude in service scale.

We are seeking a high-growth engineering leader who is ready to take on significant challenges and drive results.

To succeed in this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Building and leading a team of experienced engineers to design, develop, and operate scalable and reliable cloud database systems.
  • Partnering with product and program management teams to define and deliver cloud database features and services that meet customer needs.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize technical initiatives that drive business growth and customer satisfaction.
  • Developing and maintaining technical expertise in cloud database technologies and staying up-to-date with industry trends and advancements.
Key Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • 3+ years of experience managing engineering teams and leading technical initiatives.
  • 7+ years of experience working directly within engineering teams and designing or architecting new and existing systems.
  • 3+ years of experience leading the definition and development of multi-tier web services.
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and live site operations.
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams.
Preferred Qualifications

We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in:

  • Communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy.
  • Recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching, and managing teams of software engineers to improve their skills and make them more effective.

The base salary for this position ranges from $171,400/year up to $286,200/year. Salary is based on a number of factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
