Teacher Counsellor

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Teacher Counsellor to join our team at the York Region District School Board.
About the RoleThe successful candidate will provide guidance and support to students in a public K-12 school setting, working closely with teachers, parents, and community partners to promote student well-being and academic success.
Key Responsibilities- Provide individual and group counselling to students, addressing a range of issues including mental health, social-emotional learning, and academic support.
- Collaborate with teachers and other school-based teams to develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) that meet the unique needs of each student.
- Develop and maintain relationships with parents, guardians, and community partners to ensure a comprehensive support system for students.
- Stay up-to-date with current instructional practices, curriculum, and Ministry of Education policies and procedures.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in areas such as trauma-informed practices, conflict resolution, and restorative practices.
- Master's degree in counselling psychology or special education, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in a public K-12 school setting, preferably in a similar role.
- Knowledge of the Ministry of Education's current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations and community partners.
