The estimated salary for this position is $90,000 annually, based on industry standards and location in Langley, BC, Canada.

Job Description

As an Electrical Power Solutions Specialist, you will play a critical role in supporting our Field Service Technicians with commissioning, troubleshooting, testing, and maintenance of low and medium voltage switchgear products. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing technical support over the phone or in-person at site to field service teams by following a scientific step-by-step process to troubleshoot equipment issues.
  • Capturing data and troubleshooting steps concisely and accurately to facilitate effective communication to internal and external parties.
  • Developing Method of Procedure (MOP) guidelines for each site trip/project implementing changes to the existing system by the Service Team on any Thomson Power Systems products.
  • Implementing ongoing improvement and updates on Service Forms and work instructions.
  • Communicating with Product Engineering/Design Teams regarding important product bulletins that would affect service, software upgrades, product upgrades or maintenance factors.
  • Providing and delivering technical training programs for customers and/or employees on new and existing products.
  • Assisting and supporting the Technical Call Desk, Coordinators, and other cross-functional teams addressing customer inquiries and issues.
  • Ensuring comprehensive understanding and compliance with all company policies, emphasizing adherence to quality standards and health and safety regulations.
  • Building, developing, and maintaining exemplary customer and vendor relationships while maintaining a high level of quality and technical service.
  • Participating in factory witness/shop testing as required.
  • Working directly with 3rd party equipment vendors to help resolve re-occurring issues with vendor equipment within Thomson Power Systems' integrated products.
  • Providing feedback on issues found in the field by Service Technicians to Manufacturing and Engineering regarding quality control or design criteria and product specifications.
  • Working with the Field Service Supervisor in scheduling field resources to cover service needs.
  • Traveling to sites and providing in-person technical support to Field Service technicians when required.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Engineering or equivalent.
  • 10+ years of technical experience in the Power Generation Industry (or similar industry).
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience installing, commissioning, troubleshooting, upgrading, and retrofitting electrical distribution systems including LV and MV switchgear, ATSs, automation controls, and back-up power systems.
  • Past Field Service work history with an OEM or reputable service company.
  • Responsible, self-motivated, exemplary work ethic, excellent time management, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Exceptional technical written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to multitask and ensure follow-up on multiple competing priorities.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of PLC and HMI programming and applications.
  • Advanced understanding and ability to interpret detailed electrical and mechanical schematics and ladder logic programs.
  • The ability to work independently.
  • The ability to travel if needed.
