Job Description

The Purchasing Manager for General Merchandise is responsible for procuring non-food commodities, including outdoor goods and power equipment. As part of the Procurement, Supply Chain & Logistics Team, this role involves developing and managing procurement and marketing programs to maximize sales and margins.

This position plays a crucial role in delivering continuous improvement efforts towards achieving and maintaining organization sales and service excellence.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain high levels of service and support to Member Co-ops.
  • Achieve budgeted margins and targeted sales through detailed planning and implementation of profitable sales plans.
  • Provide complete documentation and timely updates of user-friendly information and procedures on all programs and services.
  • Establish measurement indicators to determine the success of all programs and provide consistent feedback to stakeholders.
  • Develop, refine, and implement the CASM program to meet the evolving needs of Member Co-ops and Arctic Co-ops businesses.
  • Contribute to the System's Central Advertising Program and recommend competitive prices at acceptable margins.
  • Negotiate service and supply programs with suppliers to generate the best product selection, volume pricing, discounts, service, and value.
  • Recommend merchandise assortments with attention to competitors' strengths, market trends, and analysis.
  • Coordinate tradeshow listings and resupply for assigned categories and review processes to ensure efficiency and best practices.
  • Troubleshoot issues with orders, shipments, and customer inquiries as they arise.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • University degree in business administration or related field.
  • Professional certification such as SCMP, preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in retail procurement, with General Merchandise procurement being an asset.
  • Understanding of SKU rationalization, planograms, and merchandising for effective inventory turns and profitability.
  • Able to work in a multi-tasking, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proven commitment to customer service for internal and external customers.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent time management skills with ability to independently manage multiple priorities and conflicting deadlines.
  • Proven background in maintaining and developing strong vendor relations through program development and negotiations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Proven commitment to personal growth and development.
  • Superior organizational skills with excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

Estimated Salary

$6,345.61 - $7,465.42 per month
