Director of Operations Job Summary

The Director of Operations is responsible for overseeing all aspects of site operations, ensuring strategic guidance to operations leaders and direct reports. Direct responsibilities include production, maintenance, engineering, supply chain, with matrix reporting for finance, quality, human resources, environmental health and safety.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and adhere to the annual production budget, participating in new product development and planning.
  • Supervise direct and indirect reports to establish a positive relationship and ensure associate benefits.
  • Improve Employee Safety systems, identify issues, and drive a Zero mindset on employee injuries.
Job Description Details:
  1. Continuously improve our Employee Safety systems, identifying issues and solving them.
  2. Assure Food Safety and Quality systems are in place, delivering customer expectations.
  3. Work with the supply chain team to identify capacity constraints and ensure delivery promises.
  4. Implement Performance Systems, Lean approach to Manufacturing, and drive proactive communication throughout the organization.
  5. Leverage performance system approaches to lead by example and calibrate teams on performance.
  6. Deliver 3-5% cost savings annually through projects improving OEE, reducing waste, and unnecessary costs.
  7. Create and drive annual business plans on People, Safety, Quality, Service, and Costs.
  8. Lead Plant teams, ensuring clear goals, objectives, and expectations on performance, and calibrate the team regularly.
  9. Monitor daily operation schedules for accuracy and ensure daily operational goals are realized.
  10. Provide strategic guidance through participation in cross-functional meetings and data analysis on sales trends and cost performance.
  11. Create a 3–5 year strategic plan for the facility, assuring supply and maintaining infrastructure needs, supporting organizational growth strategy.
  12. Improve facility stewardship and asset maintenance.
  13. Participate in new product development and planning by researching cost and ability of producing the product.
  14. Lead implementation of new product implementation for the facility.
  15. Adhere to approved operations annual budget and provide budget updates and adjustments as requested.
Minimum Requirements:

Education/Certifications: Bachelor's degree required; preference for degrees in Engineering and Food Science.

Experience: Minimum ten years experience in a production facility; with minimum three years as a Plant Manager. Prefer experience in the food industry.
