Scotiabank is seeking an experienced Associate Director to join our Global Governance and Compliance team in Global Banking and Markets. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading the design and execution of our AML/ATF and Sanctions compliance program globally.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Champion a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Execute and maintain AML/ATF compliance controls and provide AML/ATF compliance expertise and support to the business and functional units that form the first line of defense.
  • Support the Director by proactively addressing gaps, identifying opportunities, and leading changes for streamlining or automating end-to-end processes and controls to enhance compliant execution of the AML and Sanctions program.
  • Identify and gain a strong understanding of the key aspects of existing and pending regulations and laws governing Global Banking and Markets products, services, and processes.
  • Develop, manage, and implement phased action plans or projects to ensure that Global Banking and Markets and by extension the Bank, is following existing and new regulations or laws.
  • Support the Director Global Governance & Controls Program Management on developing implementation strategies, detailed project plans, and monitoring progress against planned objectives related to GBM's Internal Control program.
  • Contribute to a positive risk culture and ensure day-to-day activities and decisions are undertaken in accordance with the Bank's risk appetite in accordance with relevant policies and procedures.
  • Provide input into the policies and procedures to support all new products/services/channels and recommend effective controls to ensure effective AML risk mitigation and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide support to GBM regulatory-related projects and support exam coordination.
  • Lead for GBM AML and Global Governance & Controls Program Management lead initiatives, including Governance for CRR, ACRM, TPRM (AML) and Negative News.
  • Liaise with name screening solutions team to identify and address gaps with respect to GBM's name screening controls globally.
  • Execute and maintain compliance controls, provide compliance expertise, and support to the business and functional units that form the first line of defense.
  • Perform ad-hoc, special, and/or focused data analytics as necessary, as well as other duties and projects as assigned, to support the overall GBM Global Governance & Controls Program Management program.

  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct, and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions, and conduct risk.

Requirements:
  • This position supports the 1st line AML program globally for GBM. This requires an understanding of requirements under multiple jurisdictions, including Canada, US, Singapore, HK, and UK.
  • A strong understanding of operational processes and technology will contribute to the success of the program. Continuous improvement of AML processes will be required throughout the program.
  • The position may involve multiple deliveries with intense timelines as well as regular problem-solving with high ambiguity and complexity.
  • Minimum 8 years' experience in financial services.
  • University degree in business, finance, or other relevant field; MBA degree.
  • CAMS or Certified Financial Crime Specialist designations.
  • Strong knowledge of corporate banking, correspondent banking, capital markets products.
  • Experience in compliance programs; AML knowledge and experience.
  • Back office or middle office experience in capital markets, i.e., understanding of data flows.
  • Highly proficient Excel and PowerPoint skills with strong experience in developing executive-level presentations.
  • Working knowledge of Tableau/PowerBI Software's (Preferred but not essential).
  • Data and financial analysis experience is preferred.
  • Change agent with high energy, demonstrated strong ability to work under pressure, deal with ambiguities and uncertainties, and drive for results.
  • Ability to manage multiple compliance reviews and projects concurrently.
  • Familiarity with the key products offered in GBM and related AML/ATF and sanctions functions.
Work Arrangement:

This position is currently a hybrid role, with the expectation that you will work at least 3 days a week in the office. Please note that this is subject to change based on the needs of the business.
