Our clinical role is to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate recreation and leisure programs and services relative to the identified needs of patients. We utilize functional intervention, leisure education, and recreation participation in a holistic approach to enable persons with physical, cognitive, emotional, spiritual, and/or social limitations to acquire and/or maintain the skills, knowledge, and behaviors that will allow them to reach their optimal level of functioning for recreation and leisure.

Job Summary:

The Recreation Therapist is responsible for providing therapeutic recreation services to patients in a forensic psychiatry setting. This includes assessing patient needs, developing and implementing individualized treatment plans, leading group interventions, and evaluating program effectiveness.

  • A graduate degree in Therapeutic Recreation or a related field">
  • Current membership with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO) and registration designation R/TRO or R/TRO DIP">
  • Experience working with mentally disordered individuals, preferably in a forensic psychiatry setting">
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada and relevant risk assessment tools">
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills">
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team">
