Key Qualifications

To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will possess a graduate degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation & Leisure, or Recreation Therapy. Relevant certifications, such as R/TRO, R/TRO DIP, or CTRS, are an asset. Prior experience working with mentally disordered individuals, particularly those with forensic backgrounds, is essential. The Recreation Therapist should demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, as well as the ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks effectively. Familiarity with Forensic specific Risk Assessment tools and legislation relevant to the client population is also crucial. As a key member of the Forensic Psychiatry Program, the Recreation Therapist must be able to think critically, adapt to changing situations, and provide creative solutions to complex problems.
