Job Title: Homeless Support Worker - Crisis Intervention Specialist

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Homeless Support Worker to join our team in providing crisis intervention services to individuals experiencing homelessness. As a member of our team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the well-being and safety of our clients.

 

Key Responsibilities:
  • Participate in shift changes and ensure seamless transitions of care.
  • Respond to 24-hour crisis calls, conduct telephone screenings, and facilitate intakes.
  • Provide house orientation to new clients and ensure a smooth onboarding process.
  • Maintain accurate records of shift information, client interactions, and other relevant documentation.
  • Collaborate with caseworkers to maintain a safe and functional environment within Kate Booth House.
  • Assist with food preparation and meal service.
  • Intervene in crisis situations, including conflict resolution and violence prevention.
  • Perform security checks at the beginning and end of shifts.
  • Familiarize yourself with KBH policies and procedures to ensure compliance.
  • Maintain a clean and tidy living environment.

 

Requirements and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A certificate, diploma, or degree in social services or a related field.
  • Valid First Aid/CPR level C and FOODSAFE Level 1 certificates.
  • A minimum of two years' experience working with victims of domestic violence.
  • Frontline experience in a social service setting.
  • Experience assisting professionals in safely intervening in domestic violence situations.

 

Preferred Skills and Abilities
  • Understanding of the situation of women who have experienced violence in their intimate relationships and their children.
  • Excellent written, verbal communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to bridge and collaborate with diverse agencies, ministries, and lawyers.
  • Proficiency in using computers and database programs.
  • Valid BC driver's license (driver's abstract required).
  • Criminal Record Check for working with children and/or vulnerable adults.
  • Nonviolent conflict intervention training.
  • Completion of online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.

 

Salary Range

$60,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience.
