Senior Mechanical Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team at the City of New York. As a key member of our Department of Social Services, you will be responsible for designing and implementing mechanical systems for our facilities, ensuring maximum resource efficiency and sustainable building practices.
Key Responsibilities- Consultant on Engineering Matters: Serve as a consultant on major engineering matters, providing expert advice and guidance to our team.
- Research and Analysis: Conduct or direct research on complex engineering projects, analyzing data and making recommendations for improvement.
- Proposal and Report Preparation: Prepare original proposals and reports of a complex nature, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
- Team Leadership: Serve as team leader on projects of great technical complexity or with potential impact on Agency engineering operations and infrastructure.
- Design and Planning: Design and prepare plans and specifications for new construction, alteration, or repair of building mechanical systems, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, sprinklers.
- Computations and Analysis: Perform all mechanical computations and analyses, such as cooling and heating loads, energy analysis, cost comparison, equipment sizing and selection, hydraulic calculations, design flow, head, and pressure losses for HVAC, sanitary, domestic water, and fire protection systems.
- Sustainability and Efficiency: Ensure projects are designed with maximum resource efficiency and sustainable building practices, including that HVAC conversion projects provide the most cost-effective design and construction.
- Field Investigations: Conduct field investigations for Mechanical/HVAC/Plumbing/Fire Protection problems at facilities and provide thorough and complete engineering reports with recommendations for appropriate actions.
- Design Review: Review consultant's designs, calculations, and specifications of existing and new systems and make complete evaluations with recommended action.
- Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with agency staff, consultants, other governmental representatives, landlords, and contractors in seeing that project objectives are recognized and attained.
- Construction Administration: Participate in construction administration activities, such as conducting periodic site visits, attending construction meetings, responding to Requests for Information (RFIs), reviewing shop drawings, and participating in substantial completion inspections.
- Documentation and Filing: Sign and seal engineering and other official documents, and file projects at Department of Buildings (DOB), Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), New York City Fire Department (FDNY), and other authorities having jurisdiction.
- Quality Standards and Procedures: Oversee the development of the unit's quality standards and procedures.
