Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a skilled Nurse Specialist to join the Thoracic Respiratory Unit at Vancouver General Hospital.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality nursing care to patients with respiratory conditions, working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care for the thoracic patient group, ensuring optimal outcomes.
- Participate in discharge planning, advocate for patients, and educate them and their families on health promotion and wellness.
- Enhance patients' quality of life from their perspective.
- Document care provided and respond to incidents in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Consult, confer, and collaborate with other healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive care.
- Maintain and advance clinical competence to provide exceptional patient care.
- Participate in hospital committees and approved research projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Demonstrated ability in nursing practice related to the designated client group - Respiratory Medicine and Thoracic Surgery.
- Demonstrated knowledge of pathophysiology related to common diagnoses and surgeries, as well as specific clinical situations relevant to the area of practice.
- Demonstrated ability to provide nursing assessments and interventions related to common diagnoses and surgeries, and specific clinical situations relevant to the designated patient/client group.
- Demonstrated ability to perform focused secondary assessments and integrate information from various sources to develop a plan of care relevant to the designated patient/client group.
- Demonstrated ability to anticipate and respond to potential complications and care issues relevant to the designated patient/client group.
- Demonstrated ability to document client care on appropriate systems/forms in accordance with organizational and unit standards in a timely and accurate manner.
- Demonstrated skill in the management of patients with acute postoperative pain, including the use of thoracic epidurals and patient-controlled analgesia.
- Demonstrated skill in safe care and management of patients with a pleural chest tube, tracheostomy, and PICC line.
