About the Role

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to lead the Health Information Processing section at Interior Health Authority. As a seasoned professional, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the section, ensuring high efficiency and quality results within allocated resources.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and provide training/orientation to staff and students in the section, developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Interior Health HIMS goals and directions.
  • Coordinate the training of students in the section, acting as an expert resource to staff and students working in the section.
  • Monitor staffing levels and workload patterns, ensuring adequate staffing levels are maintained in the section.
  • Provide budgetary input to the Professional Practice Leader, monitoring and reporting on operating expenditures and demonstrating fiscal accountability.
  • Ensure routine and formalized maintenance programs are carried out on all departmental equipment, maintaining and controlling an inventory of equipment and supplies.
  • Participate in safety programs at the site, following safety procedures and promoting safe work practices.
  • Develop and foster effective relationships with colleagues and peers within Interior Health, and external agencies, to positively influence professional practice.
  • Provide input to the Professional Practice Leader on matters such as departmental planning, monitoring and decision making, coordinating appropriate departmental staffing levels, and special projects.
  • Lead the strategic and tactical planning for the section, developing goals, objectives, standards, policies and procedures in consultation with key stakeholders.
  • Represent the Section/Department on internal and external committees or projects as required.

  • Strong leadership and management skills, with experience in supervising and training staff.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and external agencies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to monitor and report on operating expenditures.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Knowledge of health information management principles and practices.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with multiple priorities and deadlines.
