About the Opportunity

This is a unique opportunity to join the Squamish Nation as a Cultural Advisor, working closely with the Language and Cultural Affairs Department. As a key member of the team, you will provide cultural guidance and support to community members, external agencies, and internal stakeholders. Your expertise will be essential in developing and implementing cultural programs, events, and initiatives that promote the Squamish Nation's heritage and traditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide cultural advice and guidance to community members, external agencies, and internal stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement cultural programs, events, and initiatives that promote the Squamish Nation's heritage and traditions.
  • Collaborate with the Language and Cultural Affairs Department to develop and implement cultural policies and procedures.
  • Provide support to departments regarding cultural activities and events.
  • Sit on various internal and external committees to provide cultural expertise and guidance.
  • Act as a backup to the department's culture team when needed.
  • Delegate work and provide direction to the Cultural Coordinator.
  • Review and approve all information from the coordinator team, and seek clarification from the Manager where needed.

Requirements

  • Combination of education and experience in a related field.
  • Professional, adaptable communication style with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence others.
  • High level of emotional intelligence, patience, and integrity.
  • Ability to meet tight timelines and set their work priorities to do so.
  • Ability to work independently within a defined objective.
  • Maintains composure in high-pressure situations.
  • Resourceful and organized with excellent time management abilities.
  • Able to deliver negative information tactfully and diplomatically when needed. Acts ethically and handles sensitive information with confidentiality.
  • Team-oriented with a positive, approachable attitude.
