Job Summary

The 4th Class Power Engineer/Maintenance Worker performs a variety of trades duties approaching the journeyman level in HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and welding. This role involves maintenance and repair duties related to buildings and equipment, as well as mechanical and electrical repairs to plant systems such as heating, air handling units.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operates, repairs, and performs preventative maintenance on air handling units, mixing boxes, VAVs, emergency power, and other related equipment.
  • Monitors and adjusts temperature control systems, pressure, and feed water levels.
  • Monitors and records meter and gauge readings to ensure distribution of steam/air heating to designated areas.
  • Performs preventative and demand maintenance on heat exchangers, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
  • Tests and maintains chillers, pumps, cooling towers, and repairs/adjusts as required.
  • Performs water treatment analyses and adds chemicals as required.
  • Maintains, repairs, replaces, and extends steam piping systems.
  • Installs plumbing fixtures and systems.
  • Performs electrical and mechanical repairs to equipment.
  • Performs maintenance work by methods such as stripping, cleaning, lubricating, repairing, replacing, and assembling castors, wheels, and brakes on equipment.
  • Constructs items such as walls, doors, floors, ceilings, and windows.
  • Performs plastering, painting, and decorating.
  • Processes individual purchase requests.
  • Establishes and monitors preventative maintenance procedures for related equipment.
  • Maintains a safe and tidy work environment.
Requirements
  • Certificate of competency as a 4th Class Power Engineer recognized by the Province of BC.
  • Two (2) years' recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • Knowledge of social, economic, political, and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
