Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and bilingual Airport Traffic Controller to join our team at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport. As an integral part of our airport operations, you will play a crucial role in managing and coordinating vehicle traffic movements to ensure a smooth and safe experience for all passengers and drivers.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Greeting passengers arriving at the airport in a helpful and friendly manner;
  • Assisting persons with disabilities from the curb into the designated waiting areas and with contacting their air carrier for further assistance;
  • Monitoring and verifying vehicles and/or persons boarding the ferry or entering the ferry facilities;
  • Monitoring and controlling the ground transportation and parking activities, preventing unattended vehicles, and assisting with curbside issues while maintaining the smooth and free flow of traffic on the Mainland and Island sides of the Airport;
  • Educating passengers on parking and waiting options to help limit roadside congestion, unattended vehicles, and ensure pedestrian safety;
  • Patrolling the groundside curb, taxi corral, and finger lanes;
  • Controlling of vehicles and pedestrians on airport property;
  • Monitoring transportation companies conducting business at the airport;
  • Acting as first response in case of emergency;
  • Enforcing the airport policies on groundside;
  • Reporting all enforcement infractions and providing feedback to resolve problems or situations;
  • During emergencies, assisting in various roles such as traffic coordination, as required;
  • Acting as Evacuation Wardens during building evacuations;
  • Liaising and communicating with parking enforcement, taxi inspectors, and police, for enforcement purposes and taking a proactive approach to resolve traffic-related problems in accordance with regulations and/or PortsToronto policy;
  • Carrying and operating portable radios to communicate with each other and the Airport Operations Communication Center; and
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Fluent in both French and English (mandatory);
  • A minimum High School diploma or Grade 12 education;
  • Eligibility to work in Canada;
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office;
  • A self-motivated individual with a strong attention to detail;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and active listening skills;
  • The ability to physically patrol the curbside (mandatory);
  • A valid Security license and Basic First Aid certification;
  • Possession of a valid Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC) is an asset;
Salary and Benefits

The estimated annual salary for this role is $45,000 - $60,000 CAD, depending on experience. Permanently employed individuals are entitled to Medical and Dental benefits. We care about our team and their personal and professional success, and we offer a supportive and inclusive work environment.
