Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Archaeological Specialist to join our team at the City of Kamloops. As an Archaeological Specialist, you will play a crucial role in preserving our rich cultural heritage by working on diverse archaeological projects, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of experts, and liaising with local Indigenous communities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with the Heritage Conservation Act across City of Kamloops departments.
  • Collaborate with Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc, multidisciplinary consultants, and contractors throughout all phases of planning, construction, and post-construction activities for the organization's capital, operating, and development projects.
  • Identify, record, and evaluate the full range of archaeological site types expected in the BC Interior.
  • Liaise with Indigenous Communities, provincial regulatory bodies, municipal staff, and other levels of government.
  • Develop and implement strategies for the preservation and management of cultural heritage resources.
  • Conduct research and analysis to inform archaeological project planning and execution.
Requirements
  • Eligibility for Professional Membership in the British Columbia Association of Professional Archaeologists.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in archaeology or anthropology with a specialization in archaeology.
  • Minimum 7 years' experience in archaeological resource management, familiarity with Provincial Heritage Conservation Act, rules and regulations, and a working knowledge of related municipal, provincial, and federal laws, regulations, and practices.
  • Prior experience liaising with Indigenous Communities, provincial regulatory bodies, municipal staff, and other levels of government.
  • Experience on projects or initiatives that relate to infrastructure, archaeology, planning, and land use, and/or resource management.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
