Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Radiology Support Aide to join our team at Fraser Health. As a key member of our integrated acute care team, you will provide exceptional support to clients and staff in a fast-paced medical imaging environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Transport clients to and from required areas using stretchers and wheelchairs, ensuring safe and efficient movement
  • Assist technical and nursing staff with lifting and transferring clients, as well as providing support with dressing and bathroom care needs
  • Assist with procedures such as biopsies, sorting and labeling specimens with accurate medical terminology
  • Maintain supplies for various carts, cupboards, trays, rooms, and storage areas, ensuring a clean and safe environment
  • Use accepted aseptic techniques to pour sterile solutions, open sterile packages, and set up sterile trays as requested by technical and nursing staff
  • Prepare supplies for procedural examinations, gathering and setting up equipment following basic aseptic technique
  • Assist technical and/or nursing staff in procedural rooms, setting up biopsy trays and handing instruments to the Radiologist
  • Transport clients to and from required areas, utilizing prescribed safety techniques and mechanical aides
  • Assist with mobilization of clients, positioning, lifting, and/or transferring clients on and off beds, treatment tables, stretchers, and wheelchairs
  • Provide support to clients in waiting and holding areas, assisting with dressing or bathroom care, supplying blankets or bedpans, and observing client's condition
  • Monitor inventories in procedure rooms, utility areas, supply cupboards, carts, and outpatient areas, identifying depleting stock and initiating purchase requisitions
  • Receive supplies, checking to ensure ordered supplies match those received, and replenishing items such as linens and clinical supplies
  • Assist in inventory counts, counting supply items utilized for client procedures, recording numbers on costing sheets, and forwarding to Supervisor for verification and input into computer database
  • Clean and maintain wheelchairs and stretchers, checking and replacing linen and/or oxygen/suction supplies, spot-cleaning wheeled equipment, and performing equipment counts
  • Use personal protective equipment and prepare supply trays for Central Supply room, rinsing equipment, packaging items, and checking to ensure all implements are present
  • Maintain work area, cleaning items such as ultrasound probes, imaging equipment, procedural trays, and personal protective equipment
  • Observe and monitor patient/client progress, symptoms, and behavioral changes, reporting significant observations to the Registered Nurse or designate
  • Provide assistance in emergent situations, notifying applicable personnel of emergent situations, responding to requests for equipment/supplies, and relaying information as directed
  • Perform clerical duties, such as answering telephones, arranging additional porter support, and transporting client films and/or requisitions as directed by the Supervisor
Qualifications
  • Successful graduation from a recognized Health Care Assistant Program
  • One year's recent, related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Eligible for registration with the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to deal with others effectively
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
  • Ability to organize work
  • Ability to operate related equipment
