About the Role: Senior Property Accountant

The Senior Property Accountant is a key member of our finance team, responsible for ensuring accurate, timely, and reliable financial reporting for a designated portfolio of commercial properties. This role provides essential support to property managers and administrators.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate property accounting records for the assigned commercial portfolio, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
  • Generate monthly financial statements and supporting schedules, including balance sheet reconciliations and financial statement preparation.
  • Assist with capital project cost reconciliation and analysis, identifying areas for cost savings and process improvements.
  • Enter journal entries and A/R adjustments, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Prepare annual Common Area Maintenance (CAM), tax adjustments, and year-end audit working paper files, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Perform month-end activities, including balance sheet reconciliations and financial statement preparation, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Assist with budget preparation and various other finance department functions, providing support to property managers and administrators.
  • Support property administration staff with financial inquiries and management of properties, ensuring seamless communication and collaboration.
  • Analyze property records, address outstanding issues, and attend monthly financial review meetings, providing insights and recommendations for process improvements.
  • Monitor cash flow for assigned properties and prepare monthly HST reconciliations, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Provide professional and efficient communication with employees, tenants, and vendors, ensuring excellent customer service and stakeholder satisfaction.
Qualifications
  • Degree or Diploma in Accounting or a related field, with a strong foundation in financial reporting and analysis.
  • CPA designation required, with a strong understanding of accounting principles and regulatory requirements.
  • Minimum of three years of accounting experience within the commercial property management industry, with a strong track record of financial reporting and analysis.
  • Advanced skills in MS Office, particularly Excel and Word, with experience in financial modeling and data analysis.
  • Experience with Yardi property management software, with a strong understanding of financial reporting and analysis.
  • Understanding of real estate terminology, with a strong knowledge of commercial property management principles and practices.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong Excel skills and knowledge of real estate accounting systems, with experience in financial modeling and data analysis.
  • A positive, team-oriented attitude and a willingness to learn and develop, with a strong commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction.
  • Problem-solving mindset with an ability to identify solutions and take action, with a strong focus on process improvement and innovation.
