Job Summary

The Water Treatment Technician is responsible for ensuring the continued safe operation of water treatment systems and equipment.

This role involves carrying out inspections, testing, repairs, and maintenance for all facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Conduct daily system logs and tests, reporting abnormal conditions to the Building Services Manager.
  2. Stop and start systems as required for repairs, shutdowns, or power failures.
  3. Troubleshoot, maintain, adjust, repair, replace, and calibrate water treatment system equipment or components with complex interlocking circuits.
  4. Inspect water treatment systems for leaks and verify system temperatures, pressures, levels, flows, and voltages.
  5. Complete assigned water tests and make adjustments to the system as necessary.
  6. Perform system sanitation tasks and clean the outside of tanks and equipment.
  7. Compile and maintain documentation relevant to water treatment systems, including CMMS, logbooks, and change control.
  8. Determine the impact of required work, communicate, coordinate, and supervise major repairs with facilities staff, contractors, and users to minimize service interruptions.
  9. Work as part of a team to evaluate the effectiveness of systems and make continuous improvements.
  10. Use blueprints, drawings, layouts, or specifications to locate and diagnose trouble in water treatment systems or equipment.
  11. Recommend and maintain spare parts inventory to minimize downtime.
  12. Ensure all work is performed in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices, Standard Operating Procedures, Work Instructions, and safety standards.
Requirements
  • Grade 12 combined with a community college diploma in Chemical Engineering Technology, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Knowledge, skills, and abilities: good interpersonal skills, demonstrated initiative, self-motivation, good planning and organizational skills.
  • Two years of previous experience in the operations/maintenance of complex purified water treatment systems, preferred.
