Qualifications and Requirements

**Education and Experience**

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Team Lead to join our Mental Health Services team at Island Health. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in psychiatric nursing and a minimum of three years of recent related experience in MHSU clinical services, as well as at least one year of leadership experience.

**Registration and Certification**

The successful candidate will be a registered nurse or registered psychiatric nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives, and will have a valid BC Driver's License.

Key Skills and Abilities

  • **Knowledge of Mental Health Services**

Demonstrated knowledge of current theories, technologies, legislation, and practices in the area of Intensive Case Management, mental health, and the criminal justice system.

**Understanding of Complex Client Needs**

Demonstrated knowledge of the characteristics and issues involved in the care of people with serious addictions and substance use, mental illness, aggressive behaviors, who may also be homeless.

**Harm Reduction Practices**

Understanding and practical experience in harm reduction practices.

**Leadership and Collaboration**

Demonstrated knowledge of program management principles, leadership skills, and collaborative practice principles.

**Community Service Systems**

Demonstrated knowledge of the community service systems found in South Island and experience operating from a multi-organizational service delivery perspective.

**Adult Education and Rehabilitation**

Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of adult education in general and functional rehabilitation in particular.

**Communication and Interpersonal Skills**

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and to work as a member of an interdisciplinary, interagency team.

**Workload Management and Prioritization**

Ability to organize workload and set priorities, and to work independently in challenging environments.

**Patient Care and Education**

Ability to plan, organize, and evaluate patient/client/resident care, and to assess learning needs of people throughout the life cycle.

**Teaching and Training**

Ability to teach using adult education principles, and to deal effectively with a variety of internal and external contacts.
