Mechanical Project Manager

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Project Manager to join our team at Smith + Andersen. As a key member of our project delivery team, you will be responsible for leading the development of mechanical engineering concepts and managing the design process to ensure timely and budget-friendly delivery of projects.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and manage mechanical engineering concepts, including design briefs and concept reports.
- Review and manage construction budgets to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
- Perform or arrange for reviews of existing installations and interpret the impact on projects.
- Prepare calculations and select equipment, assigning tasks to designers and BIM technicians as needed.
- Coordinate document delivery with internal and external project teams, including architects, interior designers, and other disciplines.
- Review deliverables for completeness and accuracy at various stages of development.
- Promote and enforce company standards for project administration, documentation, and processes.
- Act as contract administrator for designated projects, ensuring timely completion of contract administration activities.
- Coordinate with contract administration teams regarding drawing reviews, contract administration processes, and site activities.
- Prepare change notices and reviews change notices issued by contract administration teams.
- Ensure tasks are completed accurately and within assigned hours/fee.
- Respond to technical and financial queries related to projects.
- Keep Principal-in-Charge or Associate Principal advised of changes in scope of work and prepare amendments to contracts for review and submission to clients.
- Support accounts receivable processes.
- Liaise with external consultants and vendors to ensure smooth project delivery.
- Organize and attend meetings, including client meetings, and deliver presentations to clients/owners.
- Assess and report on existing building mechanical systems, making recommendations for optimization, upgrades, or lifecycle replacements.
- Possess five or more years of project engineering experience in mechanical building services.
- Possess current P.Eng. or be able to qualify within one year. A senior C.E.T. with equivalent experience and abilities will also be considered.
- Advanced working knowledge of provincial building codes, ASHRAE, CSA, and NFPA standards.
- Fully understand codes and standards relevant to projects and communicate requirements to internal and external project teams, owners, and authorities having jurisdiction.
- Fully understand project procurement methodologies and recommend or apply such methods for projects.
- Demonstrate strong leadership qualities and ability to work independently.
- Demonstrate ability to work in fast-paced environments, dealing with multiple projects and clients.
- Possess sound communication skills, as demonstrated through client and staff relations.
- Demonstrate experience working with other consultants and contractors, and coordination of major projects.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- LEED certification/experience implementing sustainable design (LEED projects) is an asset.
