About the Role:
Royal Columbian Hospital's Hepato-Pancreatico-Biliary surgery program is seeking an Associate Physician to join their team. As an Associate Physician, you will play a crucial role in the management of Hepato-Pancreatico-Biliary surgery inpatients, providing perioperative surgical and medical care under the direct supervision of the attending HPB surgeon.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage inpatient and emergency room consultations, including recording patient history, developing treatment plans, and intervening in postoperative care as needed.
- Complete daily inpatient HPB surgical ward rounds with the attending HPB surgeon, documenting patient progress and intervening in postoperative care as needed.
- Update medical records, request and order lab tests and diagnostic procedures as necessary, and perform detailed examinations of patients.
- Create and implement patient care treatment plans, coordinate with other medical professionals and specialists, and prescribe medications as needed.
- Contribute to patient discharge planning, including direct communication with patient's GP, specialists, and/or BCCA as needed.
Qualifications:
- Successful completion of Part 1 of the Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination (MCCQE) or Steps 1 through 3 of the United States Medical Licensing Examinations (USMLEs).
- Medical degree from a school listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools.
- Minimum of two years of accredited postgraduate training as a medical or surgical specialist, verified by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC (CPSBC).
- Proficiency in the English language as established by the CPSBC and eligibility for registration with the CPSBC in the Associate Physician class, under sponsorship by Fraser Health.
- Valid Canadian Citizenship, be a permanent resident or be legally able to live and work in British Columbia.
Competencies:
- Knowledge and skills to diagnose and manage common medical problems in the obstetric patient.
- Confidence and experience in recognizing and initiating response to emergency situations such as shock, acute coronary syndrome, stroke, etc.
- Ability to recognize medical instability and address initial priorities of resuscitation.
- Excellent English communication, including with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
