The Government of Nova Scotia is seeking a highly skilled Economic Geologist to join our team in the Geoscience and Mines Branch. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for conducting applied, high-quality, field-based research and activities to improve our understanding of all mineral deposits in the province and/or our knowledge of economic mineral potential, with a focus on critical minerals.
Key Responsibilities- Design and execute field-based geological evaluations and assessments to identify and quantify economically viable mineral deposits in the province.
- Collect, interpret, and publish scientific data, observations, interpretations, and recommendations as a senior geologist and collaborator with internal and external teams.
- Produce comprehensive mineral deposit models supported by thorough geoscience study and reasoning, using modern platforms and techniques.
- Develop innovative approaches and solutions to a variety of geoscience challenges in Nova Scotia.
- Master's degree in Earth Science or Geoscience, with emphasis on metallic mineral deposits, economic geology, geochemistry, petrology, and structural geology.
- At least 7 years of related experience, or a combination of education and experience.
- Superior knowledge and experience in field studies and metallic mineral deposits/economic geology.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Computer skills in GIS, 3D modeling, database management, and office software.

This is a two-year term opportunity with an anticipated end date of June 1, 2026. However, the position status is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate.
