Job Description

Meridia Recruitment Solutions has partnered with a leading law firm in Ottawa to recruit a seasoned finance professional to oversee the financial operations of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the accounting team, comprising three employees, and ensure seamless execution of daily accounting activities, including processing outgoing funds, bank deposits, accounts payables, and receivables.
  • Provide backup support to the team during high-volume periods, remote work, vacation, or sick leave, ensuring uninterrupted service delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with government, bank, and Law Society standards and best practices from an accounting and financial perspective.
  • Manage audits in a timely manner and address any deficiencies promptly.
  • Prepare internal monthly reports, providing insightful financial analysis and recommendations for improvement.
  • Main liaison for inquiries and changes related to bank and credit card reconciliations.
  • Respond to inquiries from lawyers and staff on client files, maintaining accurate records and providing timely updates.
  • Oversee cash flows, updating the Executive Committee regularly on financial performance and areas of concern.
  • Attend regular meetings with the Management Committee and/or Partnership to provide financial updates and strategic recommendations.
  • Prepare and oversee all bank, government, and regulatory filings, applications, registrations, payments, and reporting requirements, adhering to established schedules.
  • Oversee annual review engagements with the external accounting firm for year-end reporting, encompassing five subsidiaries.
  • Manage legal accounting and docketing software, ensuring seamless user setup, updates, and problem resolution, recommending software improvements as necessary.
  • Create policies to enhance financial health and contribute to the overall success of the firm through regular financial analysis, developing key financial models, planning for cash expenditures, and creating presentations and reports for the partnership.
Requirements:
  • Accounting professional designation (CA, CGA, CMA, CPA, ACAF) or degree, with commensurate experience. Master's in Finance or MBA is considered an asset.
  • Proven knowledge of financial forecasting.
  • Detailed and results-driven approach.
  • Leadership and business acumen.
  • Expert-level problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to extract key metrics from complex data.
  • Desire to learn and grow in the role.
  • Experience managing cash flow.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in a legal environment managing trust accounts.

An estimated salary for this position is $120,000 - $180,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience. The compensation package will be discussed in detail during the interview process.
