Job Overview

Dexter Construction Company Limited is a diversified construction company engaged in various aspects of heavy civil construction within the Atlantic Provinces.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Project Planning and Execution: Assist in planning, executing, and delivering company projects on time, within budget, and according to specifications.
  • Resource Management: Help define project requirements and scope, acquire project resources, and support project team members.
  • Quality Control and Communication: Ensure efficient delivery of project requirements, effective quality control, and clear communication of expectations to stakeholders and senior management.
Primary Duties:
  1. Scheduling and Hand-Off: Prepare schedules and job hand-off for awarded work, assist with subcontractor management, site meetings, and scheduling.
  2. Project Timelines and Requirements: Plan all project timelines, milestones, and requirements using appropriate software tools and methods.
  3. Project Life Cycle: Coordinate project life cycle from initial planning, bidding, operations, to project completion.
  4. Day-to-Day Tasks: Assist with day-to-day tasks in the office and field.
  5. Safety Initiatives: Actively participate in required safety deliverables and promote a positive safety culture.
  6. Process Improvement: Support implementation of process improvement initiatives.
  7. Progress Tracking: Track project progress and costs to ensure completion within budget.
  8. Estimation and Budgeting: Read blueprints to estimate project costs effectively and liaise with subcontractors and trades on various estimates towards the construction project.
  9. Collaboration and Communication: Communicate and collaborate with departmental leaders to stay abreast of construction needs, budgeting, and evaluation of possible bids.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Education: University degree in Civil Engineering or other Construction Management program preferred.
  • Experience: Experience in Heavy Civil Construction considered an asset.
  • Licenses and Certifications: Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
  • Personal Qualities: Ability to work as part of a construction team, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, professional attitude, punctual, assertive, and personable.
  • Judgment and Reasoning: High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning.
  • Pressure Situations: Ability to respond in pressure situations with a calm demeanor and high sense of urgency.
  • Travel: Ability to travel throughout the Maritimes to support various projects.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Computer Skills: Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Project, Outlook).
