We are seeking a highly skilled Microbiologist I to join our team at Thermo Fisher Scientific. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing analysis on finished products, raw materials, or packaging materials following established methods and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
Key Responsibilities- Perform media preparation and growth promotion testing.
- Document all tests, test materials, and equipment used, as well as all results obtained.
- Conduct water testing and environmental monitoring.
- Maintain cultures and identify microorganisms.
- Perform equipment maintenance and calibration.
- Assist with laboratory cleaning, equipment cleaning, and glassware cleaning.
- Assist with incoming sample management.
- Prepare and submit reports as required.
- Maintain a safe working environment and report potential hazards.
- Perform alternating or rotating shift work, including weekends or after-hours as required.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A college or technical school diploma/degree in Microbiology or a related field.
- A minimum of 1 year of demonstrated microbiology laboratory experience.
- Experience with SAP/LIMS is an asset.
Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered. Additionally, a detail-oriented individual with excellent organizational skills, good verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work well independently and in a team environment with limited supervision is preferred.
Working ConditionsThis role requires ordinary ambulatory skills and physical coordination sufficient to move about the laboratory and office locations. You will need to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and crouch periodically for prolonged periods of time. You will also need to manipulate light to medium weights of 10-35 pounds, and have arm, hand, and finger dexterity to grasp and type for prolonged periods of time. Safety glasses, safety shoes, a lab coat, latex or similar gloves, and a safety apron may be required occasionally.
