The University of Alberta Hospital is a leading clinical, research, and teaching hospital in Canada, treating over 700,000 patients annually from western and northern Canada. Our hospital offers a wide range of diagnostic and treatment services, including adult services within cardiac sciences, neurosciences, surgery, medicine, orthopedics, renal, critical care, burns, transplant and trauma inpatient programs, as well as ambulatory clinics.

About the Role

This position is part of our centralized Rehabilitation and Allied Health Program responsible for adult patient population and will support patients specifically who are within the Mazankowski Heart Institute, concentrating services with the Cardiac Sciences service area. This includes the cardiac inpatient wards, cardiac ICU and cardiac surgery.

As a key member of our team, you will provide therapeutic interventions to enable clients to achieve optimum physical function and independence in development, disease, disability, chronic conditions, illness and functional decline. You will collaborate with patients and families to determine, implement and evaluate appropriate rehabilitation strategies.

Responsibilities
  • Provide intervention (prevention, triage, screening, assessment, diagnosis, goal setting, treatment, management, education, consultation, fostering resourcefulness, case management, referral and transition support)
  • Incorporate clients and families as integral members of the healthcare team, encouraging active participation in all aspects of care
  • Collaborate with interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich supports and engage in quality improvement
Requirements

We require:

  • Bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy from an accredited university program
  • Current registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Alberta
  • Experience working in a critical care setting within the cardiac ICU and cardiac surgery ICU
  • Knowledge of pre- and post-cardiac surgery conditions, ventricular assist devices and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation
Competitive Salary

We offer a competitive salary estimated to be around $80,000 - $100,000 per year, depending on experience.
