The Wije'winen Health Centre in downtown Halifax is seeking a part-time locum family medicine physician to cover a maternity leave from April to January. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary clinic serving Mi'kmaq families in Halifax and beyond.
The centre is located within the Mi'kmaw Native Friendship Centre on Brunswick Street and collaborates with other teams, including mental health, housing, social work, and more. There is a pediatrician and psychiatrist starting soon, and the clinic has a strong team of medical professionals, including MOAs, RNs, and family physicians.
Responsibilities include examining patients, taking histories, ordering diagnostic tests, and advising patients on health care and disease prevention. The physician will also consult with other medical practitioners, act as a patient advocate, and prescribe medications and treatments.
This is a rewarding opportunity to work in a community-focused clinic and make a positive impact on the health and well-being of Mi'kmaq families.
Responsibilities- Examine patients and take their histories
- Order diagnostic tests and laboratory procedures
- Advise patients on health care and disease prevention
- Consult with other medical practitioners
- Act as a patient advocate
- Prescribe and administer medications and treatments
Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS) and certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC). Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) is also required.
