Job Summary

Rural and Northern Child and Family Services is seeking a qualified Support Worker to join our team. As a Support Worker, you will provide support to children, youth, and families in a rural and northern setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide respite services to family and other caregivers
  • Create supportive relationships with individuals and their family
  • Provide supervision, companionship, and personal care of the participant
  • Promote the safety and well-being of the participant
  • Implement behavior support plans
  • Assist, support, and participate in community services and recreation activities
  • Provide transportation to recreational outings and appointments
  • Teach independent living skills, such as self-care, cooking, community access, budgeting, and banking

Requirements

  • Ability to work with children and families in a supportive manner while establishing and maintaining professional boundaries
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with children, families, co-workers, and agencies
  • Ability to work with families, children, and youth facing multiple barriers, such as financial difficulties, addiction, abuse, mental health, etc.
  • Ability to work with families, children, and youth from diverse cultural and social backgrounds and have an awareness of cultural values and differences
  • Ability to plan, organize, schedule, and implement tasks and activities appropriately
  • Excellent judgment and problem-solving skills, including the ability to handle confidential, sensitive, and non-routine issues in a challenging environment
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Excellent written communication skills

Working Conditions

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must provide a satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search
  • Must provide a satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check
  • Must have a valid driver's license, access to a vehicle, and the ability to travel within a specified region of Manitoba
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including days, evenings, weekends, and overnights
  • Physical ability to perform all necessary duties, which may include lifting and physical activities
