Job Summary

We're seeking a Senior Director of Software Engineering to lead our technology team in an agile development environment. As a key member of our leadership team, you'll be responsible for driving great digital experiences for Loblaw by growing and leading a high-performing technology team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a high-performing technology team in an agile development environment
  • Ensure consistent and timely delivery of new features while driving velocity, predictability, and quality
  • Develop, recruit, and retain top engineering talent
  • Scale our eCommerce solutions to serve millions of customers daily
  • Communicate project status and issues in a concise and accurate manner to executives and stakeholders
  • Collaborate with multiple business and technical teams to define and deliver complex customer-facing solutions
  • Anticipate bottlenecks, provide escalation management, anticipate, and make tradeoffs, and balance business needs versus technical constraints
  • Plan and manage multiple parallel projects
  • Work with the product management team to continuously improve our product development methodologies

Requirements

  • 10 years of progressive experience, including at least one in a senior management or director-level role, preferably in a high-volume, complex, consumer-facing eCommerce environment
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Computer Science required, advanced degree preferred
  • Excellent understanding of Cloud Native, Web, Mobile, and Continuous Delivery technologies, especially as they relate to eCommerce
  • Excellent understanding of Agile and Scrum methodologies
  • Strong inter-personal skills, including the ability to work in a cross-functional environment and communicate with all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to drive clear action and ownership amongst large development teams
  • Eye for talent and a history of building high-performance development teams
  • A true leader – someone who enables and inspires their team to do their best work
  • Hands-on technologist who can dive deep and hold their own with senior developers building a scalable product
  • Decisive, confident, and experienced with influencing others with a strong sense of urgency, accountability, and ownership
