Job Summary

The Associate Dean, Faculty of Health and Human Services is a senior academic leader responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction to the Faculty. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of academic leadership and management experience in the Canadian post-secondary education sector.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Management
    • Provides educational and administrative leadership to implement the overall mission, vision, and values of the Faculty.
    • Fosters and supports student satisfaction with programs, program delivery, and the quality of instruction.
    • Ensures consistent application and compliance with College student policies and processing of complaints, investigations, and the appropriate course of action and sanction in all cases of student discipline.
    • Works in support of the Dean and as acting Dean when required, including Chairing the Dean's Advisory Committee, attending Senior Education Team, and when required Senior Leadership Planning.
  • Program Development and Management
    • Provides administrative lead and oversight on behalf of the Dean's office for external program recognition, accreditation, and approval processes.
    • Supports the Dean in regular reviews of educational programs and the development of educational policy.
    • Initiates, provides support, and manages processes for viable cost recovery programming activity.
  • Human Resources Management
    • Promotes and encourages teamwork and consults with and supports faculty and staff.
    • Participates on and/or chairs faculty recruitment/search committees as needed.
    • Supports the recruitment, orientation, coaching, and supervision of faculty and staff in collaboration with the Dean and Chairs.
  • Internal Liaison
    • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with Chairs and faculty on a regular basis and with faculty programs.
    • Develops and fosters relationships with advisory committees and other internal College committees to inform current and future programming requirements and promote programs.
  • Financial Management
    • Develops feasibility studies for new Health and Human Service programming.
    • Monitors enrolments and makes recommendations to the Dean to optimize enrolments and ensure program viability and fiscal sustainability.
Requirements
  • Education
    • Master's degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience
    • Five years of progressive academic leadership and management experience in the Canadian post-secondary education sector.
    • At least five years exemplary post-secondary teaching or educational development experience within the last 10 years, preferably within the disciplines of Health and Human Services.
  • Skills and Abilities
    • Ability to create, maintain, and support a positive, learner-centered work environment.
    • Ability to provide senior academic and administrative leadership in a diverse Faculty, and within a unionized work environment.
    • Demonstrated team building/maintenance skills.
    • Demonstrated collaborative leadership skills.
    • Demonstrated change management skills and abilities.
    • Demonstrated competence with budget development, monitoring, and expenditure control.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Education
    • Completed doctoral degree.
  • Skills and Abilities
    • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in program development and/or curriculum within a post-secondary context.
    • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.
    • Demonstrated understanding and capability in the management of student issues related to the teaching/learning environment, course policies and procedures, academic conduct, and behavioral conduct.
