About the RoleThe Director, Engagement, in conjunction with the Associate Vice President and senior leadership team, directs programs that engage alumni, donors, and friends, fostering relationships through activities that connect with the university and deliver exceptional experiences.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and oversee broad and campaign-specific engagement strategies, ensuring the successful creation, execution, and evaluation of initiatives aligned with the University's strategic plan, Shape.
- Lead a talented and committed team of professionals in the creation, execution, and evaluation of high-quality programs and initiatives that engage, cultivate, and steward relationships with alumni, donors, volunteers, and friends.
- Develop, implement, and optimize data-driven engagement programs, initiatives, and campaigns that grow connections with the university, strengthen relationships, and inspire philanthropy.
- Provide senior counsel to the events team responsible for implementing external events with campus partners, including presidential events and those most crucial to the university's reputation with external constituencies.
- Bring vision and senior leadership to advancing innovative annual giving programs.
- Provide senior oversight and counsel on donor relations strategies and plans that fulfill the university's responsibility to its donors through regular contact and reporting on contributions and impact.
- Work closely with strategic communications and marketing teams to ensure high-quality, effective, and coordinated communications with audiences.
- Responsible for advancing an active donor portfolio and managing complex relationships with multi-interest stakeholders.
- Serve as senior fundraising lead on projects and initiatives identified as priorities by the AVP Development and Alumni Relations and VP External Relations.
- An undergraduate degree in business, marketing, management, communications, or a related discipline. A graduate degree is strongly preferred.
- Significant and progressively responsible experience in relevant areas, including project management, event strategy, marketing, development, and overseeing stakeholder engagement programs and teams.
- Demonstrated ability to advance complex projects, initiatives, and events, facilitating consensus across functional areas, disciplines, and stakeholders.
- Proven strategic and analytical thinking and ability to understand the university's context to establish a clear direction to achieve the organization's vision and goals.
- Demonstrated ability and success in setting and executing relationship-building strategies through others, including senior leaders.
- Significant senior-level experience overseeing giving strategies, programs, and campaigns, including compelling fundraising appeals, direct mail or digital campaigns, and implementing strategies to enhance donor retention.
- Skilled decision-making, including decisions with the appropriate level of consultation and transparency expected in an academic institution.
