The Assistant Manager - Molding Operations will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of the molding department at Polytainers. This individual will be responsible for maintaining a high level of plant and machine safety, supporting performance improvement actions, and understanding and supporting targets for people, quality, delivery, and cost.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain a High Level of Plant and Machine Safety:
- Work with shift supervisors to ensure all team members are trained and performing in a safe and efficient manner.
- Conduct regular and thorough investigations of accidents and incidents to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Promote proactive identification and elimination of hazards and work with shift supervisors to correct unsafe acts or conditions.
- Support Performance Improvement Actions:
- Work with team members and shift supervisors to establish and maintain procedures and standard work on the production floor and in the molding office.
- Communicate fully with the molding manager or shift supervisor as needed to address follow-up, corrective action, or performance concerns.
- Follow up with shift supervisors and/or molding manager on team member concerns or issues to ensure timely feedback.
- Work with shift supervisors to ensure cross-training and back-up support is adequate.
- Drive actions to improve departmental KPIs.
- Understand and Support Targets:
- Audit the shop floor regularly to ensure compliance with policies and procedures and ensure that inspections are appropriately documented.
- Work closely with shift supervisors to establish and follow up on corrective actions when performance is off target.
- Maintain a routine of regular auditing on the production floor and follow up with shift supervisors and team members to close the loop on any practices that undermine sound SQF practices.
- Follow up on and support timely response to NCRs and PQIs, including establishing corrective action plans.
- Escalate issues when an appropriate decision cannot be reached.
- Report and Communicate:
- Attend and actively participate in daily molding production meetings.
- Participate in the daily quality meeting.
- Ensure regular and full communications sessions take place between shift supervisors as well as by shift supervisors on their shift, including completion and follow up on items listed on the 'Molding Open Issues Board'.
- Ensure department preventative and predictive maintenance plans are established and known to production scheduling.
- Conduct presentations to the molding team as needed in ad hoc or regularly scheduled meetings to encourage the flow of knowledge, information, and full communication in support of molding objectives and actions.
- Perform layered audits as scheduled.
- Hold daily meetings with supervisors and process technicians to discuss production and other matters.
- Establish Practices that Support a Learning and Continuous Improvement Culture:
- Work with relevant stakeholders to establish and maintain training materials and set up a process for continuous learning and professional development for the molding team members.
- Require demonstrated leadership and support by meaningful participation in specific CI projects and Kaizens, as well as the promotion of a continuous improvement culture by communicating, encouraging, and supporting actions identified to improve processes or procedures on the molding production floor.
- Track and manage the execution and completion of molding-specific projects when deemed appropriate.
- Other Duties:
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Outstanding interpersonal and people management skills, with strong ability to influence actions without direct reporting authority.
- Strong knowledge and experience in injection molding operations and maintenance is a definite asset.
- Practical thinker and doer with the ability to develop and implement solutions at a tactical level.
- Demonstrated strong planning and organizational skills.
- Passionate about manufacturing and committed to establishing and maintaining best practices and instilling pride in producing quality product in a safe and productive workplace.
