Job Title: Permanent Staff Lawyer

An exciting opportunity awaits you in Yellowknife. You would be working independently and providing thorough opinions on the merits of applications for legal aid. As such, your advice, opinions, and service provided on behalf of clients can be critical to and have a significant impact upon them and their families.

To be successful in this role, you typically need:

  1. a Law Degree and to be eligible for membership to the NWT Bar,
  2. five (5) years of experience as a legal counsel practicing in the Family Law area,
  3. experience working in a legal aid clinic environment and managing other lawyers and support staff.

Salary: The salary range for this position is approximately $125,697 - $150,150 per annum, plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3,700.

Key Responsibilities

As a Permanent Staff Lawyer, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing legal advice and opinions on family law matters,
  • Representing clients in court and other legal proceedings,
  • Managing files and cases, including custody and child support applications and child protection matters,
  • Working collaboratively with other lawyers and support staff in the legal aid clinic environment.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • a Law Degree and be eligible for membership to the NWT Bar,
  • five (5) years of experience as a legal counsel practicing in the Family Law area,
  • experience working in a legal aid clinic environment and managing other lawyers and support staff.
