Senior Roadway Engineer Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Roadway Engineer to join our team at EXP. As a key member of our Transportation group, you will be responsible for leading the design and implementation of transportation projects.

About the Role

You will be responsible for developing and supervising a team that handles transportation detailed design and planning projects. You will also prepare preliminary design reports, design criteria, preliminary and detailed designs for new and rehabilitation projects. Additionally, you will prepare Contract Specifications, Tender Documents, and Applications for Agency Approvals.

Responsibilities

  1. Develop and supervise a team of transportation engineers.
  2. Prepare preliminary design reports, design criteria, and detailed designs for transportation projects.
  3. Prepare Contract Specifications, Tender Documents, and Applications for Agency Approvals.
  4. Review and issue finalized Shop Drawings.
  5. Coordinate and mentor junior staff working within the municipal group.
  6. Liaise with Clients, Sub-consultants, Contractors, and construction supervision staff.
  7. Assist with the preparation of Proposals for potential projects.
  8. Lead or support Environmental Assessment for municipal transportation projects.
  9. Act as a Project Manager for Transportation tasks and projects.
  10. Maintain client communications; prepare technical reports and presentations.
  11. Coordinate internal resources to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and with quality control.
  12. Oversee the assessments and preparation of reports, drawings, etc. by staff.
  13. Attend public/private meetings and make presentations as a representative of EXP and/or our clients.
  14. Assist in business development activities to continue to grow our group.
  15. Assist in hiring of, and directly oversee and mentor more junior team members.
  16. Develop and implement internal training, standard practices, and QA/QC methodologies.
  17. Make a positive contribution to the overall EXP culture and environment.

Requirements

  1. Degree in Civil Engineering with 10+ years of related experience, preferably with Ontario Municipal Road and Provincial authorities.
  2. P. Eng. designation with PEO is required.
  3. Experience in supervision, budget management, report preparation, and client relationship management.
  4. Emphasis and proficiency with Microstation, OpenRoads, AutoCAD, Civil 3D. Experience with earlier versions of Microstation and InRoads will be considered.
  5. Strong computer software skills with ProjectWise, Word, Excel & MS Project.
  6. Knowledge with MTO and Metrolinx standards, including various Municipal & Regional design and drafting standards.
  7. Skilled in cost estimating, quantity preparation, and specification writing.
  8. Independent, Organized, and Motivated Team player with excellent oral and written communication skills.
  9. Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and deliver projects under stringent schedules in a fast-paced turnaround environment.
  10. Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as advanced technical writing abilities.
  11. Attention to detail and accuracy.
  12. Strong interpersonal skills that focus on meeting customer requirements.
