MacEwan University is seeking a highly experienced Director of Student Affairs for a full-time continuing opportunity in our Exam Services department. Reporting to the Associate Dean, you will be responsible for the strategic oversight, ongoing leadership, operational direction, and management of services offered by MacEwan's Exam Centre, which provides critical testing services and support to students requiring accommodations and deferrals.

You will act as a critical resource in building the Exam Centre into a respected and student-focused service provider that is accessible, supportive, and responsive to the ongoing and changing needs of the student body and broader MacEwan community.

The estimated annual salary for this position is $85,000 - $110,000 CAD, depending on experience and qualifications.

About the Role
  • Leading and managing staff, including assigning and monitoring workloads, preparing schedules, responding to emerging issues, and approving timesheets;
  • Managing recruitment, selection, onboarding, and training processes;
  • Coaching and supporting staff, including performance management and conflict resolution;
  • Collecting, maintaining, and analyzing statistics, student feedback, and operational data for department evaluations, business process improvements, and future planning;
  • Developing, implementing, and updating annual operation, financial, marketing, and communication plans;
  • Participating in budget, strategic, and operational planning meetings and processes as a member of the leadership team within Student Affairs;
  • Resolving day-to-day issues or student concerns and guiding service delivery standards to uphold service excellence;
  • Collaborating with the Access and Disability Resources team to develop and maintain specific training around disability awareness, de-escalation, and dealing with unauthorized materials;
  • Managing the planning, development, and oversight of technology resources, including productivity software, databases, and assistive devices;
  • Participating on committees and liaising with internal and external stakeholders to maintain standards and practices;
  • Making decisions on the duty to accommodate and handling instances of alleged academic misconduct or unauthorized use of materials;
  • Advising and collaborating with campus partners on Exam Centre protocols, policies, and emerging assessment technologies and tools; and
  • Developing and maintaining positive relationships with other post-secondary institutions' exam programs to ensure best practices are implemented.

  • The ability to operate with a high degree of tact, diplomacy, professionalism, and sensitivity to student and faculty concerns;
  • Time management and organizational skills, with the ability to thrive in a work environment with multiple competing deadlines;
  • Knowledge of change management principles;
  • Knowledge of FOIP and records management policies, practices, and legislation;
  • Strong understanding of the Alberta Human Rights Act and related duty to accommodate;
  • Knowledge of disability-related barriers;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications;
  • Familiarity with various exam testing platforms and technologies; and
  • Familiarity with adaptive technology such as text-to-speech, speech-to-text, and digital magnification.
About Your Qualifications
  • A minimum of a degree in Business, Education, Administration, or a related field;
  • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible related experience;
  • A minimum of three years of leadership experience in a unionized environment;
  • The completion of Mental Health First Aid is considered an asset;
  • Training in trauma-informed practice is considered an asset;
  • Experience in a post-secondary institution or other public sector environment is considered an asset;
  • Experience working with and providing support to adults with diverse needs in a learning environment is preferred;
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
