Job Overview:

The Globe and Mail is seeking a seasoned editor to join our national desk and drive our Canadian news coverage. As Deputy National Editor, you will work closely with reporters across the country to determine which stories to cover and how to best tell them.

This is a management role that requires strong leadership skills, excellent communication, and the ability to motivate and support a team of 5-10 reporters. You will be responsible for assigning daily and breaking news, brainstorming ideas and angles for national news coverage, and editing stories in various formats.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assign daily and breaking news
  • Brainstorm ideas and angles for national news coverage
  • Edit stories in various formats
  • Directly manage a team of 5-10 reporters
  • Collaborate with reporters and editors across the newsroom

Requirements:

  • At least seven years of experience in news media
  • Strong news judgment and endless curiosity about current events
  • Strong editing skills
  • Previous experience in a supervisory role is an asset
  • Ability to work some evening and weekend hours
