Thompson Rivers University is a vibrant and diverse institution located on the traditional lands of the Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc and the T'exelc within Secwépemc'ulucw. With its campuses in Kamloops and Williams Lake, as well as a robust Open Learning division, TRU serves over 28,000 students, including approximately 3,500 international students per semester from more than 100 countries.
The OpportunityWe are seeking an inspiring and visionary leader to serve as our next President & Vice Chancellor. Reporting to the Board of Governors, the President & Vice Chancellor will be responsible for the overall strategic, academic, and operational leadership of the university. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring TRU continues to be a leader in higher education and a catalyst for community development and social change.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement a compelling vision and strategy that aligns with TRU's mission, values, and goals.
- Lead the university through the next phase of growth and innovation, ensuring continued excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement.
- Foster a culture of academic excellence and inclusivity, supporting the development of innovative programs and interdisciplinary initiatives that meet the evolving needs of students and the community.
- Strengthen TRU's position as a key community partner by building strong relationships with government, industry, Indigenous communities, alumni, and other stakeholders.
- Effectively manage TRU's resources, including financial, human, and physical assets, while promoting a culture of transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement across all areas of the university.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of success in senior leadership in the post-secondary sector. The successful candidate will possess exceptional relationship building skills and the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders, including government, industry, Indigenous communities, and the broader public. A terminal degree, such as a Ph.D. or Ed.D., is preferred, along with significant experience in academia.
