We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Engineer to join our team at Nova Scotia Health Authority. As a Clinical Engineer, you will be responsible for the provision of medical equipment systems design, implementation, safety, and life cycle management.
Key Responsibilities:- Design, implement, and manage medical equipment systems to ensure optimal performance and safety.
- Provide technical expertise to clinical teams and staff on the use of medical technology.
- Lead medical equipment projects to support the implementation of capital medical equipment programs.
- Conduct health technology assessments, risk management, and ensure adherence to regulations and standards for medical devices.
- Develop support and preventative maintenance plans for medical equipment.
- Ensure equipment meets cybersecurity requirements.
- Support the development and implementation of enterprise asset management and fleet management strategies.
- Design and implement medical equipment systems that support organizational strategies and clinical service plans.
- Provide consultation on medical device repairs, departmental policies, equipment procurement, and electrical and medical gas distribution.
- Oversee project design, incident reports, and capital equipment specifications.
- Provide functional guidance to biomedical engineering staff and the organization.
We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in engineering, preferably in electrical, mechanical, biomedical, or clinical engineering. A graduate degree from an accredited engineering program is required. The ideal candidate will have 4 years of experience in a healthcare setting and be licensed to practice engineering with Engineers Nova Scotia.
- Graduate from an accredited engineering program, specializing in electrical, mechanical, biomedical, or clinical engineering (or a related engineering field).
- Must be licensed, or eligible to be licensed, to practice engineering with Engineers Nova Scotia.
- 4 years experience in a health care setting.
- Master in clinical engineering, biomedical instrumentation, or related fields is deemed an asset.
- Clinical engineering certification would be considered an asset.
- Great interpersonal skills, leadership and teaching ability, with the ability to work as a member of a team and/or serve as team leader.
- Must demonstrate the ability to maintain currency with advances in medical and engineering technology.
- Knowledge and experience in applying federal regulations, laws and standards in a healthcare setting.
- Proven ability to manage projects with large capital budgets.
- Must possess the technical knowledge and experience in a hospital setting necessary to be effective in writing system specifications, functional requirements, installation, and consumable costs as they relate to new biomedical equipment purchases.
- Proven experience in meeting planned objectives and ad-hoc requirements within a large and diverse biomedical equipment portfolio.
- Proven tolerance for ambiguity, with experience working through unforeseen challenges and obstacles to achieve both immediate and ongoing goals.
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred.
This is a permanent, full-time position with 75 hours bi-weekly.
Compensation and IncentivesThe successful candidate will be offered a competitive salary range of $42.94 - $53.67 hourly. In addition, they may be eligible for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
