About Us
Community Advocacy & Legal Centre (CALC) is a progressive and collaborative legal clinic serving rural central/south-eastern Ontario. We are seeking an experienced lawyer to join our dynamic team.
Job Summary
We invite applications from lawyers with 8 or more years of experience interested in community lawyering approaches, social justice, and service innovation. The successful candidate will provide poverty law services, lead community development, law reform, and systemic advocacy projects.
About the Role
- The ideal candidate will have expertise in areas of law impacting people living on a low income and vulnerable communities, particularly tenant, income security, employment, and human rights, and consumer & debt law.
- A proven track record in project planning, management, and evaluation is required.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people living on a low income and in rural communities is essential.
- A commitment to trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, and anti-oppressive approaches is necessary.
- The role requires proven ability to interact with high need clients with complex needs in an empathetic manner.
- An understanding of and commitment to working on significant legal and social justice issues impacting our communities is vital.
- Candidates must be able to work collaboratively and strategically across disciplines to improve access to justice with partners in the justice, health, social service, government, and/or community sectors.
- Excellent analytical, creative, evaluative, and strategic thinking skills, as well as strong time and project management skills, are required.
- Litigation and tribunal experience, as well as appropriate/alternative dispute resolution experience, is an asset.
- The ideal candidate has established ability for participating effectively and with impact in high energy and ambitious teams.
- High degree of computer literacy and administrative self-sufficiency is necessary.
What We Offer
This is a permanent employment opportunity with a competitive salary range of $120,000 - $150,000 per year.
