Job Overview

The Northwood team is seeking a skilled Community Garden Coordinator to oversee the day-to-day operations of the community garden program.

About the Role

This part-time position involves planning and overseeing all aspects of the William E Live More Community Garden and Park. The successful candidate will facilitate engagement with participants and community members, educate folks on growing food and healthy eating, and provide knowledgeable and therapeutic experiences for our participants.

Main Responsibilities
  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the community garden program, ensuring facilities and equipment are in place, program guidelines are followed, and safety standards are met.
  • Communicate effectively with members, volunteers, and Northwood Bedford Campus staff as a team member.
  • Create a program plan, including plans for planting, procurement of seeds and supplies, maintaining garden beds, and identifying community partnerships.
  • Contribute to a positive and supportive program focused on improving mental and physical well-being.
  • Support hiring processes for summer term garden and program staff.
  • Record and maintain statistics reflecting the program's success markers and participate in evaluation plan development.
  • Train, coordinate, supervise, and mentor program volunteers and summer term staff who support program facilitation and garden maintenance duties.
Requirements
  • Applicant must be entering full-time post-secondary studies in the fall semester immediately following the work term or continuing full-time post-secondary studies after the work term.
  • Applicant must be a permanent resident of the province or live in Nova Scotia for at least six months prior to the work term.
  • Experience facilitating educational and/or therapeutic programming.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently or as a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge/experience with vegetable gardening and landscaping.
  • Proficient using basic hand tools and gardening equipment.
  • Experience working with older adults (an asset).
  • Experience providing supervision or mentoring (an asset).
What We Offer
  • A competitive hourly rate of $18.30 per hour.
  • An opportunity to work 35 hours weekly, days only.
