Job Description

This challenging yet rewarding position requires an experienced professional with a strong track record in debt investments, particularly in venture capital, venture debt, and start-up financing ecosystems. Your expertise should include asset-light business models, such as e-commerce and SaaS.

Responsibilities
  • Lead a high-performing team of investment analysts, guiding them through professional development and fostering a culture of excellence.
  • Evaluate strategic credit investment opportunities, providing insightful recommendations to the Credit Committee on size, duration, and capital structure.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with founders and their management teams during the underwriting process, understanding their business models, assessing risk profiles, and identifying potential for growth.
  • Own and refine underwriting models, ensuring their performance and accuracy.
  • Oversee the monthly large loan monitoring process, proactively identifying risks to repayment and developing mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Investments to enhance underwriting capabilities through continuous process improvements.
  • Assume the role of Director of Investments in their absence, ensuring seamless leadership and decision-making.
  • Contribute to the creation of new products and services, working closely with commercial and technology teams to bring innovative ideas to life.
Requirements
  • 10+ years of experience in debt investments, with a significant portion focused on large-scale decisions (£/$2m+), preferably within venture capital/venture debt/start-up financing ecosystems.
  • Strong educational background in finance, holding an accounting or finance degree or an MBA.
  • Highly analytical, with expert-level experience in interpreting complex financial data and accounts for underwriting purposes.
  • A confident communicator, capable of interviewing founders and CFOs to understand their business and financial performance, and articulating investment decisions and rationale effectively.
  • Strong knowledge of sectors we operate in, including e-commerce, online businesses, and SaaS models.
  • Commercial acumen, finding deals that balance business needs and protecting our interests.
  • Organized, flexible, and focused, with the ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities.
  • Hawk-eye attention to detail, spotting potential issues and opportunities that others may miss.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset, constantly seeking opportunities for growth, learning from setbacks, and making decisive actions.
