Job Title: Environmental Specialist - Hazardous Materials and Industrial Hygiene

QEOSH (HSE) Staffing & Recruitment Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Environmental Specialist - Hazardous Materials and Industrial Hygiene to join our team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing technical guidance on environmental matters, including hazardous materials and industrial hygiene.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical guidance on environmental matters, including hazardous materials and industrial hygiene.
  • Conduct hazardous materials and asbestos surveys, and provide associated information to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Commission hazardous materials and asbestos reports, and perform technical reviews and interpretation of surveys and reports.
  • Manage the development, review, update, and implementation of asbestos management programs across the country.
  • Prepare asbestos and mold removal scopes of work, including removal procedures and quotes for removal.
  • Ensure demolition and rebuild projects that involve asbestos are completed in compliance with appropriate legislation and manage their progress from beginning to end.
  • Perform asbestos sampling and moisture/mold assessments for internal management purposes.
  • Oversee water restoration activities and ensure drying activities are adequately performed.
  • Periodically meet with Operations to address asbestos and other designated substance concerns.
  • Conduct scheduled and ad-hoc site visits to address asbestos and mold concerns, upon request.
  • Act as an on-call subject matter expert to other departments.
  • Work in close collaboration with other members of the hazardous materials/industrial hygiene team to ensure all projects are proceeding as planned.
  • Review applicable legislation on a regular basis to ensure compliance with hazardous materials and designated substance regulations across Canada.
Requirements:
  • University or college education with a focus in Environmental or OHS, or hazardous materials or industrial hygiene, or similar discipline.
  • 3 to 5 years of related experience, including conducting/reviewing hazardous materials surveys, asbestos assessments, indoor air quality reports, mold assessments, radon, silica, industrial hygiene, water restoration, or other related field work, including the use of field equipment.
  • Experience in hazardous materials consulting or industrial hygiene is a strong asset.
  • Water Damage Restoration Technician (WRT) and Fire and Smoke Restoration Technician (FSRT) certifications, or willingness to obtain.
  • PMP, CRST, ROH, ROHT, and/or OHST designation is a strong asset.
  • Strong grasp of Environmental and hazardous material legislation and regulations.
  • Experience with and knowledge of compliance frameworks for environment.
  • Experience with and knowledge of compliance frameworks for health & safety is a strong asset.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent project management skills, including time management and delivering on multiple deadlines.
  • Excellent organization, negotiation, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Friendly, outgoing, and personable attitude.
  • Proficient Microsoft Office skills are required. Valid drivers license and continuous access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Hybrid working environment with the ability to work from the Toronto office a minimum of 3 days per week.
  • Reliable access to high-speed internet when working remotely.
  • 10% travel across Canada, 25% travel across Greater Toronto Area.
