About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Industrial Technician to join our team at the City of Calgary. As an Industrial Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality of our wastewater systems and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect and analyze wastewater samples from various locations throughout the City to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Prepare and submit wastewater samples to our laboratory for analysis.
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment such as autosamplers and laboratory equipment.
  • Provide information to customers regarding our wastewater surcharge program.
  • Maintain accurate records of data entry and compilation of results.
  • Participate in various projects related to wastewater and compliance monitoring as directed by the Team Lead.
  • Participate in team and project meetings to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
Requirements
  • A completed 2-year diploma in Chemical or Environmental Technology or a related degree in Environmental science or Chemistry.
  • At least 3 years of experience in environmental and wastewater sampling, including lab and computer work related to wastewater characterization and field instrumentation.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel) is required.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits, no current suspensions or charges pending.
  • Registration with The Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET) as a Certified Engineering Technologist or as a Registered Engineering Technologist (RET) or equivalent will be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of wastewater and industrial processes will be considered an asset.
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a high-level of organization and computer literacy, and the ability to work safely and independently.
Working Conditions

This position requires working in locations that may be physically demanding, including walking, climbing, and carrying moderately heavy equipment. Applicants must be able to work in the field in all types of weather conditions and may be exposed to dust, noise, odours, and hazardous chemicals.
