Aviva Canada Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Senior Underwriter/Underwriting Specialist to join our Aviva Business commercial insurance business unit. As a key member of our Ontario Nationals Commercial Insurance Branch, you will be responsible for driving profitable growth through quality underwriting with a middle market commercial focus.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Qualify and underwrite new and renewal Mid-Market Property & Casualty accounts, ensuring top-line growth and bottom-line profitability.
  • Develop and maintain internal and external relationships to deliver exceptional broker and customer service.
  • Act as a point of escalation for junior underwriters, authorizing risks within established authority levels.
  • Maintain the quality and profitability of the Middle Market portfolio, referring risks outside established authority levels to the appropriate resource.
  • Contribute to market research and analysis, developing business cases for pricing, coverage, and product improvements.
  • Participate in introducing and communicating pricing, coverage, and product changes, creating underwriter bulletins and contributing to underwriting guidelines, procedures, and manuals.
  • Identify areas of concern regarding loss ratios, risk trends, or discrepancies, applying remediation strategies as needed.
  • Build knowledge of Information Systems/Programs within Commercial Insurance.
  • Participate in Quality Reviews and audits as required.
  • Maintain knowledge of industry trends, developments, and regulatory changes, contributing as a subject matter expert for branch and/or Middle Market learning and development.
Requirements:
  • 7+ years' experience in commercial Insurance underwriting.
  • Post-secondary education (Business or related discipline) or equivalent practical experience, CIP/FCIP preferred.
  • Expert knowledge of underwriting, pricing, and product in key segments, i.e., Wholesaling, Manufacturing, and/or Contractors.
  • Strong understanding of underwriting philosophy, policy contracts, rating programs, risk information sources, underwriting/technical manual information, statutory constraints, and computer workflow procedures.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, RTM, Commercial systems, and other related systems.
  • Ability to interact professionally with brokers, customers, and internal partners.
  • Self-motivation and proactive pursuit of potential business opportunities with brokers and customers.
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills, high degree of professionalism, and solutions and service orientation.
