Cenovus Energy is seeking a highly skilled Reservoir Optimization Engineer to join our Thermal Reservoir Optimization team in Calgary. As a key member of our team, you will analyze well and reservoir operating data to implement strategies that improve long-term reservoir performance.
Working closely with our Reservoir Optimization leadership team, you will play a critical role in supporting Cenovus' thermal growth plans. Your expertise will be essential in optimizing a group of pads while collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team of geoscientists and production engineers.
Key Responsibilities- Work with Pad Teams to action opportunities to improve conformance, reduce SOR, increase production/recovery, and minimize impacts of bottom water and thief zones.
- Coordinate performance evaluations on assigned base pads and mentor less experienced staff on base pads.
- Develop and history match models to understand and forecast pad performance.
- Evaluate redrill opportunities on assigned operating pads and develop forecasts and economic evaluations.
- Identify and progress studies and field trials to continuously optimize performance.
- Represent the Reservoir Optimization team on multi-discipline task-forces to identify and progress opportunities to improve operational and financial performance.
We're looking for a highly skilled and experienced professional with a strong background in reservoir optimization and thermal reservoir engineering. The ideal candidate will have:
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) accreditation with APEGA or other Provincial Professional Organization.
- 12+ years of oil & gas industry experience, with a preference for candidates with SAGD thermal experience or other enhanced oil recovery experience in a subsurface role.
- Advanced skills in Reservoir Technical Proficiencies, with a depth of knowledge of multiple subsurface subject areas.
- Solid understanding of reservoir simulation software packages, such as Cenovus Sapsim, CMG STARS, SLB Intersect, or equivalent.
- Experience programming in one or more languages, such as Python, R, VBA, Matlab, C++, SQL, etc.
- Proven record of working collaboratively in a team environment and influencing others without formal authority.
- Ability to communicate complex information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated capacity to learn new concepts quickly and drive for continuous improvement.
