Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to join our team. As a Diesel Mechanic, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, testing, and repairing the mechanical parts of trucks, including diesel engines, transmissions, suspensions, steering, and brakes.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct inspections and diagnostic tests to determine vehicle condition and identify worn and damaged parts.
- Perform preventive maintenance schedules, including installing component and part upgrades, controlling corrosion, and completing winterization procedures.
- Correct vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems.
- Verify vehicle performance by conducting test drives and adjusting controls and systems.
- Comply with federal and provincial vehicle requirements.
- Maintain vehicle appearance by cleaning, washing, and painting.
- Maintain vehicle records by annotating services and repairs.
- Assist other mechanics with more difficult assignments.
- Perform layout work for fabrication of parts and equipment.
Requirements
- High School graduation required.
- Diploma of Professional Studies in automotive mechanic/diesel mechanic preferred.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in the repair and maintenance of diesel automotive/vehicular equipment.
- 3 years' experience specifically involving the repair of trucks or other heavy automotive equipment.
- Possession of a valid Driver's License required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Considerable knowledge of tools and equipment needed for the overhaul, repair, and maintenance of heavy diesel equipment.
- Ability to keep records of repairs, time, and parts used for the servicing of heavy, special-purpose automotive equipment, and to make related reports.
- Skill in the use of instruments and tools employed in the checking and repair of motors and special equipment.
- Excellent mechanical aptitude, coordination, and dexterity.
Physical and Other Abilities
- Regularly required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, talk or hear, and smell.
- Frequently required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and occasionally sit, reach with hands and arms, and climb or balance.
- Must be capable of heavy lifting and moving parts up to 50 lbs on a consistent basis.
- Must be able to work on your feet (stand or walk) for the entire assigned work shift.
- Driving motor vehicles and heavy equipment is occasionally required.
- Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate equipment.
- Specific visual abilities required for this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Proven communication skills both written and verbal (English and French).
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a solid team environment.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees and supervisors.
- Ability to work efficiently.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
