Job Title: Program Assessment Specialist

At the University of Waterloo, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Program Assessment Specialist to join our team. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the development and implementation of our undergraduate and graduate programs in Systems Design Engineering.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement assessment strategies to ensure the quality and effectiveness of our programs.
  • Collaborate with faculty members to design and implement curriculum changes and improvements.
  • Manage and analyze data to inform program development and accreditation processes.
  • Coordinate with the Associate Dean's office to represent the Systems Design Engineering department in Faculty-wide accreditation.
  • Prepare written reports, data, and documentation for external evaluations.
  • Recommend improvements and changes for advancing curriculum and co-curricular activities, including co-op.
  • Advise faculty on obtaining their licensure as a professional engineer.
  • Oversee program scheduling for all Systems Design Engineering undergraduate and graduate courses.
Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary education in engineering or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) designation required, or eligibility.
  • Several years' experience working in an academic environment, with experience in engineering undergraduate and graduate education strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with the engineering curriculum, with an understanding of student needs and a commitment to enhancing student experience.
  • Must have a general understanding of outcomes-based assessment and accreditation requirements for professional programs.
  • Demonstrated experience performing duties related to data analysis, management, reporting, and application of statistical methods.
  • Working knowledge of a variety of reporting, data management, and visualization tools.
  • Knowledge of editing SQL databases and PHP coding an asset.
  • Expert user of Microsoft Suite of products and SharePoint.
  • Demonstrated database experience and graphical/statistical analysis skills.
  • Ability to foresee the impact of change and determine what adjustments may be necessary.
  • Must possess thorough knowledge of the Faculty of Engineering undergraduate curriculum and academic requirements.
  • Experience in making and presenting data-driven decisions in support of student academic success.
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal direction, and as part of a team.
  • Aptitude for attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to think creatively and show initiative to solve problems and improve working procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with key collaborators across campus and to lead faculty groups within the department.
  • Ability to manage a large workload and prioritize competing deadlines.
  • Demonstrated experience in writing academic reports.
