Fisheries Deckhand Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and physically fit Deckhand to join our team at Young Guns Fisheries Limited. As a Deckhand, you will play a crucial role in the success of our fishing operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and Maintain Fishing Gear: Ensure all fishing gear is in good working condition, including nets, lines, and other equipment.
  • Catch and Process Fish: Assist in catching fish and other marine life, and then clean, sort, and pack them in ice for storage.
  • Maintain the Deck: Clean and maintain the deck surfaces and fish hold to ensure a safe and efficient working environment.
  • Repair and Maintain Equipment: Repair nets, splice ropes, and maintain other deck equipment to prevent damage and ensure optimal performance.
Work Environment:

As a Deckhand, you will work outdoors in a fast-paced environment, often in confined spaces and exposed to wet, damp, and hot conditions. You will also be required to handle heavy loads and work in a physically demanding role.

Requirements:
  • Education: No degree, certificate, or diploma required.
  • Experience: Willingness to train and learn on the job.
  • Language: English language proficiency required.
  • Work Hours: 35-45 hours per week, with a seasonal work term.
